Why convert

Video files are large because most of the bytes are pixels, not audio. A 30-minute lecture recording at 1080p is typically 500 MB+; the same audio as a 192 kbps MP3 is closer to 40 MB - emailable, embeddable in a podcast feed, and uploadable to any transcription service.

We apply EBU R128 loudness normalization (broadcast standard, -16 LUFS) so a phone recording you took at arm’s length and a screen capture from a Zoom call come out at similar volume. Saves you reaching for the volume knob between clips.

How to convert video to mp3 in 4 steps

  1. Drop your video onto the page

Click or drag any video file (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, etc.) onto the drop zone. The encoder loads it locally; nothing uploads.

  2. Confirm extract-as-MP3 mode

The page opens in extract-audio mode with MP3 selected as the output. The bitrate is fixed at 192 kbps (transparent for spoken audio, close to transparent for music).

  3. Optionally trim to just a section

Open Edit Mode and set the trim points. Only the trimmed range gets exported - useful for grabbing a single song or a soundbite from a longer recording.

  4. Click Extract as MP3 and download

Output is a standard 192 kbps MP3, loudness-normalized to -16 LUFS so volume is consistent across clips you process here.

Common questions

What's the bitrate?

192 kbps. That’s the sweet spot for spoken audio (transparent - no audible loss) and very close to transparent for music. Higher bitrates exist but the difference is rarely audible at typical listening levels.

Why is the volume the same across clips I export?

We apply EBU R128 loudness normalization (broadcast standard, -16 LUFS) so a phone recording you took at arm’s length and a screen capture from a Zoom call come out at similar volume. Saves you reaching for the volume knob between clips.

Can I get just a section of the video as MP3?

Yes - open Edit Mode, set the trim points, then click Extract as MP3. Only the trimmed range gets exported.

Is the input format important?

No - anything our encoder accepts as video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, and most others) works. We extract the audio track and re-encode it as MP3.

How private is this?

Your video stays on your computer. The audio extraction runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded. Full privacy story.
